Things you can do in Quarantine

India is under lockdown due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19 or commonly known as the coronavirus.

One of the biggest ways for COVID-19 to spread is due to human contact and through respiratory droplets when an infected person sneezes or coughs. Therefore, the best way to prevent the spread of this deadly virus is by not going outside.

Hurray for introverts!

The situation may seem dire and you may feel like you have nothing left to do anymore but the truth is, you can turn this 21-days-lockdown into a blessing.

As Gary Vaynerchuck would say, “It is all about perspective.”

In other words, it is entirely up to you to decide whether to lay on the bed all day, thinking about when things will get back to normal or actually make use of these 21 days as much as you can.

But what can you do while you are stuck inside your house?

Don’t worry, this article will help you turn your bad day into an amazing one. Perhaps, you might even start to cherish these 21-days as the “life-changing” days of your life.

meditate during quarantine

Meditate

We all have been in a situation where we simply cannot think straight. Our mind has taken over us and an endless train of thoughts is prohibiting us from thinking straight.

Meditation may seem like a habit meant only for old people or for the spiritual ones. But it is scientifically proven to be very beneficial to both your mental and physical health.

Plus it can be pretty enjoyable

Meditation can help you eliminate negative thoughts, anxiety, worries, stress, and can help you feel happier.

Here are the physical benefits of meditation:

  • Relaxes muscles of the entire body
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Strengthens the immune system
  • Slows down aging
  • Gives the brain enough time to recharge

Some of the psychological benefits include:

  • Help calm your mind
  • Helps in controlling anger
  • Stress management
  • Brings confidence
  • Better self-awareness

No wonder so many of the world-leaders believe in the power of meditation.

When you are getting started, we suggest finding a quiet place (which shouldn’t be so difficult during lockdown) and follow a session of guided meditation

indoor activity during quarantine

Perform some indoor exercise

These are the days when you are going to mostly stay inside your house. As a result, you probably won’t be doing a lot of exercises or even walking.

This could become a problem. You might start feeling less energized to even stay awake for the most part of your days.

In a situation like this, it is very important that we take care of our body and the best way to do so is by excising a little bit every day

Exercising as little as 30-minutes a day can help increase your energy levels, reduce the risk of chronic disease, help you sleep better, and bring other benefits to your body

Moreover, since your mind is busy focusing on the workout, exercising can even keep you away from worrying all the time.

Don’t believe us?

Try thinking about two things at the same time while lying down. You may have subsequent thought, however, you will only be able to think about one at a time.

Learn new skills

One of the greatest gifts that the 21-days of lockdown has given you is time. Time to do anything we want to (inside our house). Time to learn anything you want to.

So why not utilize this time to learn all the skills you’ve always wanted to. Venture into the world of designing or perhaps create your own world inside a novel

Learning new skills will help you stay motivated and keep you out of the bed. In fact, you wouldn’t be able to wait for the sun to rise again and have a productive day.

There are many free online courses you can join that can help you improve your skills. You can even surf through the various LIVE workshops offered by My Captain online.

You’ve been given the gift of time, use it wisely!

read books

Bring out the bookworm inside you

While you are at using time wisely, another amazing way to ensure that you make the most out of these 21 days is reading books

Besides being a great way to entertain yourself, reading books is also an equally amazing me-time activity. You can even use it to learn about new things all the while making yourself smarter and more empathetic.

So search for that book you left unfinished. How about picking up the book that has been staring at you for the last few months.

earn money

Start earning some extra money

As you may have heard by many entrepreneurs and world-leaders, it has never been easier to earn money.

While there is more to it than that meets the eye but one can always hope to make some extra money during such times.

Some of the ways to earn money online while being on a 21-day lockdown are:

Reconnect with people digitally

Think about the days you’ve been begging to get some time to reconnect with an old friend or with your loved ones.

Well… now is the best time to do so.

If you are lucky enough to be in a lockdown with your parents then you’ve been given the golden opportunity to deepen your relationship with them.

Similarly, you can simply pick up your phone and hop-on with your school friends on a video call and go down the memory lane virtually!

Organize your stuff

It is said that if you wish to organize the world around you, you should start by organizing your room

You know those important documents are better suited inside a cupboard and those laundry needs to be folded and kept in their designated places.

You now have the time to organize your room as well as your entire house. Perhaps even start re-decorating it on your own. Not only will you feel much better but also you will now have everything in the right place.

make goals during lockdown

Make goals

There has never been a better time to understand yourself better and make definitive goals around that.

Maybe you had your life as a complete mess before the lockdown. You can this time to understand yourself better, make goals, and start working towards those goals.

If your life wasn’t a mess… well, it’s never bad to be ambitious and know exactly what you want. You can utilize these days to understand the things that are important to you.

So spend some time in solitude and ask yourself these questions:

  • Why do I want it?
  • How am I going to get it?

Noting down your answers can help you stay on track even after the lockdown is over.

Cook your own food

Cooking is the most essential as well as the most basic of skills and yet so many of us don’t know how to do it.

Most of us rely on someone else like a chef or our mothers to cook us a meal.

Don’t worry… cooking isn’t a highly complicated skill. Besides, there are hundreds of thousands of videos, tutorials, as well as articles that can help you cook better.

A study conducted by Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Research shows that those who cook meals at home often eat healthier and consume fewer calories in comparison to those who cook less.

Moreover, learning how to cook your meals will help you the superpower to fight against hunger whenever you want.

No more waiting for the Swiggy guy to show up at your doorstep even after the lockdown has ended

Quit a bad habit

If only you had a dollar for every time your friend promised it was his last cigarette.

Quitting a bad habit can be very difficult but thanks to the 21-days of lockdown, our lives have become a lot more distraction-free. As a result, gathering the willpower to quit a bad habit we’ve been struggling to quit before has become easier.

Moreover, the lockdown has made it harder to find a cigarette or caffeine or any other bad habit.

One of the keys to quitting a bad habit is to replace it with a good one. So every time you think about grabbing a smoke, fall to the ground and start doing pushups.

Plan a post-lockdown vacation

What’s better than planning what you are going to do as well as the places you are going to visit once things are back to normal?

Perhaps even make a bucket list full of places you wish to visit.

Research each place and find out how you can get there, the expenses, as well as about the accommodations available and the best time to visit.

Moreover, you can even make a list of things you wish to do after the lockdown. It can include things like taking care of your health better, traveling to a city to meet a friend, visiting your grandparents, etc.

Remember, these are indeed bad days but things will get better soon. This is just a temporary situation. A much needed one too. So use your time wisely and make the most out of the 21-days lockdown.
